The Belfast Botanical Gardens are also nearby, as is the Ulster Museum. Tara Lodge is in the middle of a thriving nightlife with a large range of venues offering anything from live Irish traditional music to upbeat discos. In the third century Cormac Mac Art made himself High King of Ireland and established the seat of High Kings of Tara. It remained the residence of the High Kings until the sixth century, when, according to legend, in consequence of a dispute between the King an St. Ruadhan, the saint cursed Tara and the Royal seat was deserted never to be reestablished. In Irish poetry and tradition 'Tara' symbolises a centre of excellence and unrivaled hospitality. While not as large or as old as the original Tara, we at Tara Lodge would like to think that we equal its renowned record for hospitality and good food. The Hill of Tara can still be seen today, an impressive site, even though the remains of the Royal palaces are long gone.
